Essex, Montana [May 2005]

This year's Essexpress Weekend was all about photography. I had a great time leading the gang around to many of my favorite locations along Marias Pass, sharing sights and insights along the way.

Most visitors to the Izaak Walton Inn arrive by train. Here, the eastbound Empire Builder is met by the Inn's new red van.
The timetable might say BNSF, but this is still BN territory, just barely. A former BN SD60M leads an eastbound past the yard at Essex.
Late in the day, the low sun lights up the faces of three BNSF C44s as they chug up Walton Hill.
From the former location of the Essex depot, an eastbound stack train rolls by, under cloudy skies.
