Martinez, California [October 2000]

At Martinez, the BNSF Stockton Sub leaves the shoreline of San Pablo Bay, and curves around the hills, headed towards Franklin Canyon. The numerous cuts and fills provide some interesting landscapes.

A light engine move heads east out of Tunnel 1, with San Pablo Bay in the background.
With warbonnet paint and sandstone cuts, this photo could have been taken anywhere along the Santa Fe main in the deserts of Arizona or New Mexico. Actually, it's in the middle of a new housing development in Martinez. Note the tie plates, the byproduct of a recent tie replacement project.
