The Amtrak California San Joaquins operate between Emeryville and
Bakersville, mostly over the BNSF. Despite often heavy freight traffic on this route,
the San Joaquins are almost always on time. I took this particular trip to scout Madera as a
photography location, but also to have a look at the Stockton Sub east of Antioch.
On the way from Emeryville to Madera, we ran around this merchandise train
laden with steel coil cars from Pittsburg. Note the Distributed Power Units
buried about 30 cars into the consist.
We returned to Emeryville, and arrived right at sunset.
