The Grand Tour, Day Three [17 January 2003]

Dawn arrives "early" on this day, as we've progressed one time zone east. As we depart Winslow, Arizona, there's just enough sunlight for a shot of the platform and a private car parked to the east of the station.
The big event for today is our stop and crew change at Albuquerque.
The Superliners form a wall of stainless steel that shines in the New Mexico sunlight.
On the other side of the platform, folks from a local tribal reservation sell a variety of native souveniers. This continues a decades-long cooperative tradition that began with the Santa Fe, which made considerable use of Southwest native images in its promotional advertising.
Time to head back on board. As it turns out, I'm riding in one of the two "named" Superliner sleepers; this one is titled for George M. Pullman, the dean of American railroad luxury.
At the summit of Glorieta Pass, the Southwest Chief passes the adobe-style depot named for the pass.
The sun sets just as we crest Raton Pass, entering Colorado.
